Annie Bernatchez, PhD

Annie C. Bernatchez is a doctoral candidate of sociology at the University of Ottawa, Canada. As a political sociologist in the field of social movement studies, her research focuses on the relationship between animal justice activism and state repression in Canada and elsewhere. She focuses on the everyday lives of activists and aims to critique speciesism and capitalism in which animal lives are exploited and oppressed. She has a number of ongoing extracurricular projects and academic volunteering and has received awards from the Fond de recherche Québécois – Culture et Société and the Ontario Graduate Scholarship program to conduct her research.
